Artefact 2. - Testing the same content through both print and digital…
I’m trying to find out how memorable the information/content was between the two mediums… Does print come naturally to you therefore allowing your brain to process and digest the information effortlessly, or does the digital edition bring excitement and make it more memorable making it a better form of content delivery?

1. When reading from both mediums (magazine & iPad) which did you feel connected and engaged with you the most and why?

2. Do you feel that the interactive elements on the iPad helped present the information stronger, or was it distracting and felt more of a novelty?

3. Do you think that smaller chunks of information accompanied with        images are easier to digest
and understand opposed to lengthy article with no breaks? - Why do you think this is?

4. User Experience (UX): If you could list 2 or 3 words that you think are most important for successful UX in content delivery, what would they be? (e.g. Clear Navigation, Good Design, Concise Information)

I have asked these four questions to everyone who took part in my experiment and I’m currently waiting on the answers. Once I have looked at how each person has responded I will write up a conclusion which will allow me to naturally move forward with my research.

This is my artwork entry for Stooki Sound’s forthcoming mixtape ‘Turnt Up Vol. 2’ I aimed to make the design a little distorted and energetic to suit the tone of the mixtape. All elements within the artwork we’re created by me and within a week I’ll know if my designs will be used.

For my internal client submission I designed and built this live <html> newsletter for the Nottingham Trent Advanced Textiles Research Group.
The newsletter shines light on what the group are doing towards helping the military with their future textiles. I used GIF images to create stimulation within the newsletter and to keep with the ‘future’ theme…

Sounds I’m Listening To: Ghost Loft & Ambassaduers

An upcoming LA artist that has quickly found his spot in the music scene and continues to grow with his fascinating work. This track ‘Seconds’ is a slow and sensual r&b track with a hip-hop rhythm and awesome vocals.

I recently came across Brighton based Mark Dobson AKA Ambassaduers, this cosmic track has been on repeat since. He experiments with sound and tempo, creating a truly unique and refreshing noise that is generating serious interest among the underground club scene.

How Does Digital Delivery Affect Traditional Print Media?
Phase:
Artefact 1.

To start my practical investigation into how digital content is affecting the traditional medium of print, I planned to produce a survey aimed at 18-30 year olds, both male and female and of no specific background. The questionnaire focuses on user experience within the mediums of digital and printed content as well as how this can be improved to engage the user.

In total I asked eight questions, four were quantitative based and the other four were qualitative. I asked a mixture of questions so that I could gain a greater insight on both the statistics and emotional responses towards the topic.

In the questionnaire I asked how people felt about viewing content on a digital device such as an iPad and how well they receive the content compared to reading from a printed piece i.e. magazine. By analyzing the responses I got from the question, ‘When reading content from a screen i.e. Laptop, Phone, Tablet; How digestible do you feel the information is?’ , it was apparent that just over 50% prefer reading printed content, and the others felt that they digested content from both screen and paper equally, however only a very small percentage favored the digital option.

This result sparked further interest for me as there is a significant difference in the amount of participants who feel that printed content is more digestible than digital. As a product of this conclusion I feel it is important to further investigate why this is, as we live in such a digital age. Therefore I plan to conduct additional research for my second Artefact by providing both digital and printed issues of the same magazine to a focus group. From this I will be able to pinpoint the different aspects within each medium that engage the individual more.

Mockup Exhibition Catalog…

I have been sketching some wire frames for the BA Multimedia 2013 exhibition catalog and moved forward with a few concepts digitally. This layout is my most favoured so far as there’s enough image space for 4 images to sit comfortably and the overlapping image space gives the booklet a contemporary flair rather than a strict grid layout which is common within institutional works.

What I’m reading…

Over the past 3 weeks I have been trying to do a lot more reading than I usual, I’m not a massive reader to be fair but I’m trying to make sure I read more as I know it helps a lot with grammer, vocabulary and general well being.

HTML & CSS - Design and build Websites - Jon Duckett
I bought this book on web design after my first tutorial on web design, I have never known or learnt anything to do with web design before so I thought now would be a good time to atleast try and gain an understanding on the ins and outs of the web and the content designed for the web. I have found this book to be extremely helpful and the design/layout has really helped simplify what I thought I’d never be able to get my head around.

Wired Magazine Interactivity - Research Project -

I have purchased the December issue of Wired magazine and also plan to buy the iPad version of the same issue. The reason I am buying both is so that I can ask a friend to read  and interact with both print and digital version of the magazine and gain some qualitative feedback. This will help me understand the advantages of each medium and possibilities of what the user would like to see from both print and digital in the future.
I chose to use Wired magazine in this case because their material is relevant to my interests (Technology, Design & Business) I feel the whole aesthetics and design of their content is amazing, also they have been working with Adobe to make the most out of their interactive magazines ( Video on their approach to interactive with Adobe HERE

The question I am looking at for my research project is ‘How does online delivery change the traditional print media?’ I have been looking at related topics, blogs, videos online to try and help me focus on the area and see what information I can gather on the subject matter. This video is just to advertise the possibilities with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, nothing more than an inspirational video to kick start the project.

Symmetry -
An impressive, innovative short by creative filmmaking team from California Everynone.
This caught my eye in 2011 and I still love watching it today, it’s affecting split screen take on our need for balance, full of lovely synchronicity and relative connections in imagery, human acts and irony! This video won Everynone the Grand Prize at the 2012 Vimeo awards… Watch the review with the filmmakers to learn how they collaborate and see what went into creating their split-screen masterpiece. |Watch Symmetry Review|

Channel 4 - Paralympics - Meet the Superhumans Ad by 4Creative

When I first saw this advert it sent that tingly goosebumps feeling down my back and still does each time I watch it. To me that feeling is a sign of a powerful piece of work that has touched on my emotions, therefore being a very successful advertisement.
The editing, camera shots and music work so fittingly together that you effortlessly stay glued. The trailer has some thought provoking touches by cutting in part stories behind these athletes tragedies, truly inspiring and great work by :-
